Berken

This is a very remarkable set of paintings. A quick comparison of the first two suggests: the same painting, the second picture is too dark. But no! Look careful at e.g. the small tree just right of the middle: that's not there in the second painting, or at least it is further away. Also, there's a difference in e.g. the top of the tree on the left.

The third painting has more differences, but it will be clear: the painter has chosen once again the same place. Or did he make copies at home during bad weather? Not very likely for painting JAZ-1906-017. Zandleven painted most of his work in the open, using the inner side of his paint-box to tighten his canvas. Therefor, many paintings have sizes of 30-35 cm by 45-50 cm. On the other hand, on a warm, sunny summerday one can comfortably sit outside with an easel. So, who knows?

The fourth is more deviating, but the composition is unmistakably the same. And: do we see a house, there in the middle behind the trees? Compare this with painting number three: if we look a bit better, there might also be a house in the background! I'd like to see this on the original.
